OPTIONS FOR ADAPTATION OF URBANIZED AREAS TO CLIMATE CHANGE INDUCED EXTREME RAINFALLS

چکیده
Abstract. The impacts of the climate change progress in a form heavy cloudbursts, have been being reported over course last decade from many world cities. consequences this phenomenon are causing damages to urban infrastructure and private properties, they affect transport as well other primary city functions. In respect we should ask question, if which extent can our society be protected against these extreme hydrological processes. paper focuses on current adaptation possibilities cities settlements mitigate impact storms resulting sudden flash floods, regardless location elevation particular place. such cloudbursts drainage performance Prague is analysed by means coupled 1D 2D simulation model supported DEM GIS technology services Google Maps. influence terms growing rainfall intensities assessed an indicator called „Climate Factor“. authors present that only way adapting extremes based proper management water outflow catchment surface.

Extreme Events as Pacemaker of Adaptation to Climate Change
For variety of reasons, extreme events are thought of as propelling adaptation to climate change (Füssel, 2007; IPCC, 2012). In the simplest formulation of this logical assertion, extreme weather and climate events transcend the signal-to-noise threshold and make climate risks starkly evident to decision-makers. Similarly, they make latent societal vulnerability manifest, and overcome economic ...
متن کاملThreats to mangroves from climate change and adaptation options
Mangrove ecosystems are threatened by climate change. We review the state of knowledge of mangrove vulnerability and responses to predicted climate change and consider adaptation options. Based on available evidence, of all the climate change outcomes, relative sea-level rise may be the greatest threat to mangroves. Most mangrove sediment surface elevations are not keeping pace with sea-level r...
متن کاملIntroduction to Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Management Options
Climate is a critical factor shaping the structure and function of forest ecosystems in the Southern United States. Human induced changes in climate systems have resulted in an increase in the global average air temperature of about 0.8°C since the 1900s (Pachuri and Reisinger 2007). Data from long-term weather stations show that overall, the continental United States has warmed during the past...
متن کاملAdaptation Options in Agriculture to Climate Change: a Typology
Adaptation in agriculture to climate change is important for impact and vulnerability assessment and for the development of climate change policy. A wide variety of adaptation options has been proposed as having the potential to reduce vulnerability of agricultural systems to risks related to climate change, often in an ad hoc fashion. This paper develops a typology of adaptation to systematica...

We investigate the effect of climate change on population growth in 18th and 19th century Iceland. We find that annual temperature changes help determine the population growth rate in preindustrial Iceland: a year 1◦C cooler than average drives down population growth rates by 0.57% in each of the next two years, for a total effect of 1.14%. We also find that 18th and 19th century Icelanders ada...
